MARCEL

Marcel came to the sanctuary from Romania, where he had been living on the streets near Bucharest before being caught. He was put into the largest public shelter in Romania, a facility that houses 1,400 dogs. The shelter frequently had issues with basic supplies including food and water. Marcel spent three years living in complete darkness, though thankfully shared a kennel with Simone, and they became a deeply bonded pair.

When our director saw Marcel, he immediately touched her heart, and a decision was made to rescue both him and Simone. We were able to get Marcel proper veterinary care for the first time in his life. He was diagnosed with epilepsy and now eats a special diet, takes medicines to control seizures, and is closely monitored by our vets. 

Marcel and Simone were among the very first dogs we welcomed to the sanctuary. In order to make their arrival as smooth and easy as possible, we put them in our darkest and quietest room, where our director would go and sit with them and play music specially designed for epileptic dogs.

Since coming to France, Marcel has absolutely thrived. In truth, he is everyone’s favorite. He loves being outside, and it is a joy to see him making up for all the years he was locked away in the dark. He may be a dog who stays at WTS for the duration of his life, in order that his epilepsy can be properly cared for and monitored. Dogs like Marcel are an important part of our mission. At WTS he has found a place of safety, rest and belonging.
