ELDON

Eldon is another of our Romanian rescues. When we saw him on our first visit to Romania in the fall of 2025, he was extremely sick and skinny, his hip bones jutting out alarmingly. We worried that if he wasn’t rescued immediately, he might not survive. Our director contacted a vet we work closely with in Romania, and she agreed to take Eldon.

Eldon arrived at the veterinary clinic the following week and right away showed himself to be a gentle giant whom everyone there loved. He spent the next six weeks there being cared for and putting on weight. After six weeks, the vet felt he was ready to be moved to a foster, but it can be difficult finding fosters in Romania for large dogs and certain breeds and that was the case for Eldon. The decision was made to bring him to the sanctuary.

Eldon arrived just before Christmas on a transport in which he was the only adult dog traveling with a group of puppies. He spent his first night with us in the big quarantine room acting as a caretaker of sorts to the other new arrivals. 

When we rescued him in Romania he was only 22 kilos, and by the time he was ready for adoption he weighed a healthy 55! Though we had been told he was a senior dog, we learned he was only five. After arriving in France, he was adopted very quickly by a couple who was readying to move to the south of France. He moved first to Paris and then to their farm in the south. Eldon is lovable giant with a great personality who has become quite the popular character in the neighborhood and loves the attention.
