Loui's journey began at the Lancrăm high-kill shelter in Transylvania, Romania, where he arrived on 5 August 2025. Frightened by his new surroundings and already rather thin, Loui struggled to adapt to life in the shelter. He appears to be a Golden Retriever cross, possibly with some Chow Chow, as part of his tongue is blue.

Recognizing that Loui needed a safer environment, Walnut Tree Sanctuary rescued him in October 2025 and transferred him to Elena, one of our partner fosters in Bulbucata, south of Bucharest, where he has remained ever since.

Since arriving there, Loui has blossomed. He has regained the weight he had lost and has developed a wonderful bond with Elena. In the beginning, fear sometimes led him to bark or give a gentle warning nip, but as he learned to trust, those behaviours disappeared. Today, he greets Elena with affection and confidence, a testament to the patience and kindness she has shown him.

Loui gets along well with other dogs and walks nicely on a lead. During our most recent visit, he and Elena were waiting for us at the entrance of the foster. Although still a little shy with new people, he welcomed us warmly, seeking affection while happily playing around us.

At just two years old, Loui has his whole life ahead of him. He will thrive in a calm and patient home where his family understands that trust takes time to build. Once he feels safe, Loui rewards that patience with loyalty, affection, and a wonderfully gentle nature.
