Sahara
SPONSOR ME
Sahara's journey began at the Lancrăm high-kill shelter in Transylvania, Romania, where she arrived in June 2025. Like so many dogs trapped in the shelter system, she faced an uncertain future. By the time Walnut Tree Sanctuary was able to rescue her at the end of September 2025, she had lost a significant amount of weight, and it was clear that shelter life had taken its toll on her.
Sahara was transferred to our partner foster, Cera, in Bulbucata, south of Bucharest, where she has been waiting patiently ever since. We have now visited her three times, and witnessing her transformation has been nothing short of remarkable.
During our first visit, Sahara remained hidden inside her doghouse, too frightened to come out. On our second visit, we asked for her to be taken outside and discovered that it was the first time she had left her kennel in eight months. At first she was understandably nervous, but little by little she relaxed, began looking around, and started to enjoy the experience of being outdoors again.
When we returned for our third visit, Sahara was almost a different dog. Her fear had given way to quiet confidence. She happily interacted with Marine, our dog trainer, showed no signs of the shyness we had first encountered, and was clearly beginning to trust people again.
Sahara is a truly majestic girl. Calm, gentle, and incredibly kind, she gets along well with other dogs and has a peaceful nature that would make her a wonderful companion for almost any family.
Sahara is no longer a young dog, and time matters. We would love to bring her to the sanctuary as soon as possible so she can finally leave her past behind and have the opportunity to find the loving home she has waited so long to discover.
By sponsoring Sahara, you are helping us provide the care, rehabilitation, and support she needs while she waits for the second chance she so deeply deserves.
