Yukio's journey began at the Lancrăm high-kill shelter in Transylvania, Romania, where he arrived on 18 February 2025. For months, he waited for someone to notice him and offer him a chance. But like so many larger adult dogs, Yukio was repeatedly overlooked.

By the time Walnut Tree Sanctuary was finally able to rescue him in September 2025, the transformation was heartbreaking. The strong, handsome dog seen in the photos and videos from his arrival was almost unrecognisable. Yukio had become little more than skin and bones. His face was hollow, his cheeks sunken, and the toll that shelter life had taken on him was impossible to ignore.

Yukio is a seven-year-old mixed-breed dog, likely a combination of Dogo Argentino and Labrador. Despite everything he has endured, he remains one of the sweetest and gentlest souls imaginable. Since leaving Lancrăm, he has been staying with one of our partner fosters in Bulbucata, south of Bucharest, where we have had the opportunity to visit him several times.

Each visit has confirmed what a special dog he is. Yukio is affectionate, kind, and simply wants to be close to people. He gets along well with other dogs, is comfortable around cats, and asks for very little beyond love and companionship. His calm and gentle nature makes it impossible not to fall in love with him.

Yukio has already lost too much time waiting. As the years pass, we become even more determined to help him find the future he deserves. We hope to bring him to the sanctuary as soon as possible, so that he can finally take the next step towards finding a loving home.

After everything he has endured, Yukio deserves the comfort, security, and affection of a family of his own.
